Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chair Andres Bautista has officially stepped down from his post. He announced earlier this month that he was resigning effective end of the year.
Bautista made the announcement after receiving a letter from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea at around 2:30 p.m. informing that the President had accepted his resignation.
“The letter says my resignation is being accepted effective immediately. So the President has already spoken, and we should respect that.” Bautista said.
According to him, he was not even surprised over the response of the Office of the President considering that he had already expressed his openness to such situation when he submitted his resignation letter last October 11.
When asked how he felt after receiving the letter, he said that it was mixture of feeling, though he will miss his Comelec family, he still felt relieve because they have several responsibilities being with the Comelec.
