President Rodrigo Duterte signed Franciso Duque’s appointment paper on Thursday, October 26, 2017. Duque served as Health Secretary under the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Prior to Duque’s appointment as head of DOH, he was elected chairman of the Government Services Insurance System by its board of trustees on February 28.
He also served as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission on year 2010, and former President and director of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation on 2001 and 1999.
Duque finished medicine at the University of Santo Tomas and later took up a masteral degree in pathology of Georgetown University in Washington DC, United States.
Meanwhile, the new chief joins the list of former Cabinet officials of the Arroyo administration tapped to serve the Duterte Cabinet, amont them were Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Chief Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza, and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr.
