Former President Fidel V. Ramos may have criticized President Rodrigo Duterte but still, if there is one critic whom Duterte won’t lash out against in public that would perhaps be the former President.
In a speech at the launch of Ramos book “Make Change Work” on Monday (July 17) Duterte recognized him as his number one idol and critic.
“You are my number one supporter, but at the same time you are my number one critic now.” Duterte said during the book launching.
“I respect your criticism. I accept your advice and maybe I will mimic your role as president before — I will follow you, just like what the shirt says,” he said.
Ramos has criticized Duterte and his men a lot of times, but the President doesn’t seem to mind even if the former leader has become his number one critic.
Referring to the shirt with a print of “Follow Me” that Ramos gave him earlier during the program, Duterte said, “And maybe I will mimic your role as President before I will FOLLOW YOU, just like what the T-shirt says. Only difference is that I am not a military man.”
Ramos has called out Duterte for cursing and criticizing the United States. He was also credited for convincing Duterte to run as a President in the 2016 elections.
However, despite of their differences in opinion, Duterte said that the former President and him are the same when it comes to the love of country is concerned.
“But the love of country, patas tayo (we are the same), sir I would say that I love my country as much as you do. And we are ready to die for this country.” Duterte said.
And before his speech ends, Duterte told Ramos “You san continue criticizing me, sir.”
