Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) processing their legal papers has just been made easier with the opening of the first one-stop shop for OFW’s yesterday at the ground floor of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration’s (POEA) main office at Blas F. Ople Building in Ortigas Avenue corner EDSA, Mandaluyong City.

Now, OFW’s can avail of all government frontline services in one place at the One Stop Service Center for OFW’s (OSSCO). This service cuts document processing time and also markedly reduce transportation cost. Applicants no longer need to commute from one agency to another to complete their requirements.

POEA chief Hans Cacdac said that documents are expected to be released within 72 hours after application. He also said that the one-stop shop for OFW’s is ready to serve up to 3000 OFW’s in one day.

Services offered by the 14 government agencies in the one-stop shop for OFW’s are the following:

1.    Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)
• Passport Services
• Passport Validity Extension for Balik-Manggagawa (vacationing workers)

2.    Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)
• Processing of OWWA Membership/Renewal of Membership

3.    Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)
• Assistance for Competency Assessment
• Verification of Certificates and Special Order
• Assistance for Replacement of National Certificates (NC)/ Certificates of Competency (COC)
• Training Assistance and Scholarship Program

4.    Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
• Issuance of Professional License

5.    Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)
• Issuance/ Revalidation of Seaman’s Book

6.    Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF)
• Processing of Pag-IBIG Membership

7.    Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC)
• Payment of Philhealth Contribution
• Member registration and updating

8.    Social Security System (SSS)
• Registration and Membership Data Amendment
• Acceptance of Loan and Benefits Claim Applications

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III relayed that three more one-stop shop for OFW offices are opening in Cebu, Pampanga and Davao. These are strategically located central points frequented by OFWs. Later on, offices which offer one-stop shop for OFW services will follow suite in all regional offices led by the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Offices as well as POEA in coordination with the regional offices of the relevant agencies , local government units (LGU), and other stakeholders.

OSSCO will be open from 8am to 5pm, Mondays through Fridays. However, Secretary Bello said that they are also planning to extend the services over weekends and holidays.
