Following the success of last year’s Pixel smartphones, Google has finally launched last October 4 its newest Pixel 2 smartphones, jam-packed with upgraded features, with the aim to be the best Android phones in the market. It comes up with innovative features that will bring twists to their software such as Google assistant and will have the new Google lens tech.

Here are 14 facts you need to know about the newest Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones:

1. Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were manufactured by two companies.
Google partnered with HTC and LG companies to manufacture their newest lineup of smartphones. Pixel 2 was manufactured by HTC which has been the manufacturer of last year’s Pixel smartphones, while Pixel 2 XL was made by LG. Since the two were produced by different companies, there has been slight differences with how they look but they are almost identical on the inside.

2. Both of them have more power.
Both of the Pixel 2 phones have the same processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which means it could beat other leading Android flagships. It is paired with 4GB RAM, and although other smartphones features 6GB or 8GB RAM, it will not be a problem even for multi-tasking or gaming. Also, both of them run on Google’s own Android 8.0 Oreo update which is packed with enhancements for better performance.

3. Pixel 2 phones have dual front-facing speakers.
Another innovation of Pixel 2 phones over the last year’s lineup is the dual front facing speakers. Both of the phones have this feature and is expected to have excellent quality of audio whether for playing music or video viewing.

4. Both phones are water and dust resistant.
Another edge of Pixel 2 phones is that both of them were rated IP67 against water and dust, meaning if they will be submerged in up to three feet, it could still survive which is a great help for sudden circumstances.

5. Their displays remained unchanged.
Pixel 2 has 5-inch screen size with 16:9 ratio display with a full HD 1920×1080 resolution and 441 ppi pixel density. On the other hand, Pixel 2 XL has 6-inch screen size with 18:9 aspect ratio 2880×1440 resolution and 538 ppi pixel density. Both of the phones are OLED. Also, it comes up with always-on displays which shows time and notifications even without touching them.

6. Pixel 2 phones have better cameras.
Pixel smartphones are widely known for its camera features and now Pixel 2 phones took it on another level. There is still 12.2MP rear camera sensor, with 1.4μm pixels, laser and phase-detection autofocus, all with an f/1.8 aperture. The front camera is 8MP and will have a portrait mode. Plus the fact that it has optical image stabilization which makes it a lot more notable.

7. They have built-in eSIM.
The pixel 2 smartphones will be the first ones to use the eSIM technology. This means that you can use this phones even without SIM cards as long as you are a Project Fi subscriber, then Google will use eSIMs to validate your cellular accounts.

8. They have Active Edge feature.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones have a touch-sensitive Active Edge panels which lets you squeeze the phone to launch the Google Assistant. This will be a lot more convenient for users as it does tasks, such as taking screenshots or taking actions in different apps, in an easier way.

9. They come in all new designs.
As the previous Pixel smartphones designs’ do not have that much exciting looks, Pixel 2 and Pixel XL had a makeover. Pixel 2 comes with a 5-inch squared-off screen and chunky bezels while Pixel 2 XL have 6-inch curved corners with smaller bezels. Both phones have aluminum uni-body builds and packed with the fastest fingerprint sensor out in the market. The smaller one comes with three colors: Just Black, Clearly White and Kinda Blue while the bigger one comes in two: Black & White, and Just Black.

10. They have no headphone jack.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL do not have headphone socket. Google said that this is to give the users a choice of audio options since moving to the USB-C audio port with Pixel 2 will allow the user to provide a better audio experience. They included an adapter in the box that allows you to use your existing 3.5mm headphones.

11. The Pixel 2s’ battery life could be an issue.
Pixel 2 have 2700mAh battery while Pixel 2 XL have 3520mAh battery which are both smaller compared to that of 2016 versions but it lasts a plenty amount of time and can work all-day long. Also, the phone supports rapid charging, and Google claims that the user will get 7 hours’ worth of power with just a 15-minute charging time.

12. The first ones to use the Google Lens Technology.
One of the interesting facts of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is their newest feature which is the Google Lens. Just like Samsung’s Bixby, it is an app that let the user take pictures and get information about it with the help of Google Assistant.

13. Nothing to worry about its storage.
One of the best things about Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is there storage space. These phones come in a 64GB and 128GB varieties. Also, Google offers unlimited free storage for all your photos or videos in their original quality via Google photos.

14. They cost quite a lot.
The Pixel 2 starts£629 for the 64GB and £729 for the 128GB model while the Pixel 2 XL starts at £799 for the 64GB and £899 for the 128GB version.
